Gotta start this post with how the day began yesterday… we knew it was going to be a good day…
There is something special about starting the day with a rainbow, especially when there´s not a cloud in the sky. Always a special treat. Let´s rewind a bit though…
After heavy snows and rains, the rivers and springs in Cantabria tend to give us nice presents, like great waterfalls. Winter has reared its head a few times over the last few weeks and so I knew the waterfalls around the Soba area of Cantabria would be beautiful. We spent a few days there recently and were treated by nature.
The mountains in Cantabria can have great plays of light as the sun starts to drop and sneaks through some valleys but not others.
After healthy snows, especially toward the end of winter, the Ason river springs from its cave with quite a bit of water creating a beautiful waterfall. Here are some shots of it on a winter day.
We have had some more late snows and then spring decided to roll into town with full force so we decided to go back and see it on a gorgeous spring day and take a hike around the area. We did get a treat. I could go into a long description of the day but I think the pictures say much more. Not that I didn´t already know this, but the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow just might be in Cantabria…
On a second visit to Cantabria in spring 2009 I stayed in Lieno near Laredo and visited the Ason National Park – thanks for the memory nudge! http://apetcher.wordpress.com/2010/05/24/cantabria-collados-del-ason-natural-park/
My pleasure!
